NCSOFT describes each class in one line and gives no role or difficulty. The role shown is the one at least five of six guides agree on: ExpCarry (Oct 7, 2026), Fextralife wiki (Oct 8, 2026), LagZapper (Sep 14, 2026), MMOEXP (Jul 11, 2026 (Korean and Taiwanese version)), PlayerAuctions (Oct 8, 2026), space4games (Sep 27, 2026, updated Oct 10). Difficulty is ExpCarry's column because it is the only guide that labels every class; the tool shows the other guides' words too. They disagree most on Spiritmaster (from beginner-friendly to challenging) and agree most that Ranger is easy and Assassin hard. The MMOEXP labels were written for the Korean and Taiwanese version before the global launch.
The linked classes have a build page with dated sources; every class is in AION 2 builds, and the AION 2 tier list summary shows how published lists rank them.
Brawler: the ninth class in Korea and Taiwan
The Korean server added a ninth class, 권성 (called Brawler in English guides), in the AION 2 Korea, Chapter 1 update page, together with a level cap of 50 and 5-player parties. The global version has eight classes: NCSOFT's global site lists eight, and the Oct 14 patch sold one weapon skin for each of those eight. Korean players on Inven also note the global version has no 권성. NCSOFT has not announced a date for the Brawler on global. Progress from the Korean or Taiwanese version does not carry over (Launch FAQ).
Can you change class in AION 2?
There is no official answer for the global version: NCSOFT's Steam notices and FAQ (read Oct 15, 2026) say nothing about changing class. The only mention we found is a Korean player's summary of the Oct 13 livestream on Inven, which says the producer is not discussing a class change ticket for the Korean server for now. Until NCSOFT says otherwise, treat your class as fixed per character; the comparison above is there to help you choose.
Elyos or Asmodians: how the faction choice works
In AION 2 each server houses one faction. When you start, you pick a region, then Elyos or Asmodian, then a server of that faction ([Notice] New Server and Matchmaking Information). Every Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian one for a while, and the other faction you meet in the Abyss and in Spacetime Rifts comes from that paired server; NCSOFT says it changes pairings from time to time to keep the factions balanced.
The choice also decides your home region (the Oct 14 patch notes place the Elyos towns in Verteron and the Asmodian towns in Altgard) and which servers you can move to later: a transfer keeps both region and faction. See the AION 2 servers list for every pair and the AION 2 server transfer checker for the rules.
AION 2 class changes in the Oct 14 patch
The [Notice] Patch Notes | Oct. 13 (PDT) / Oct. 14 (CEST) changed 2 classes:
- Sorcerer: Fire Wall: bonus damage now applies when there is a height difference; your Embers is no longer removed by another player's stronger Embers.
- Sorcerer: Cold Storm: bonus damage now applies with a height difference; your Frostbite is no longer removed by another player's stronger Frostbite.
- Sorcerer: Bittercold Wind: the Frost Cooldown Reduction effect now works with a height difference.
- Spiritmaster: Summon: Ancient Spirit: summons at level 15 or below now use their skills properly.
The other six classes had no changes in that patch.
AION 2 class questions
How many classes are in AION 2?
Eight on the global version (Steam and PURPLE): Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Chanter, Cleric, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster, as listed on NCSOFT's global site. The Korean and Taiwanese version has a ninth, the Brawler.
Is the Brawler class in AION 2 global?
Not on the global version as of Oct 15, 2026. The Brawler (Korean name 권성) came to the Korean server with the Chapter 1 update on Jul 1, 2026. NCSOFT's global site lists eight classes and has not said when or whether the Brawler comes to global.
Can you change class in AION 2?
NCSOFT has not published anything about changing class on the global version (checked Oct 15, 2026). On the Korean server, a player's summary of the Oct 13 livestream says the producer is not discussing a class change ticket for now; that is one unofficial source.
Should I play Elyos or Asmodians in AION 2?
Faction is chosen with the server: each AION 2 server holds only Elyos or only Asmodians, and you pick region, then faction, then server. Each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server, and you meet that server's players in the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts. A server transfer keeps your faction.
AION 2 Klassen: are the classes the same in the German version?
Yes. German is a language setting of the same global game (NCSOFT's Launch FAQ: UI and subtitles in German, changed in Settings), so the eight classes (Klassen) are the same. This page uses NCSOFT's English class names.
